It’s always a treat when Saturday Night Live performers break character.
Usually it’s because one person or another simply has to laugh at the nonsense unfolding in front of them. But for Sam Rockwell, the NBC series’ latest guest host, it happened because he couldn’t control his filthy mouth.
Rockwell let an F-bomb fly during a sketch that featured him in the lead role on a Bill Nye-like TV series (though it was clearly inspired by Mr. Wizard’s World). The profane utterance was censored during SNL‘s West Coast broadcast and YouTube share, but it was a naked “fuck” for all the world to hear during the show’s initial East Coast timeslot.
Even better than the curse word itself was Rockwell’s immediate realization that he’d done fuc— er, messed up.
In a surprise twist, Rockwell’s F-bomb was actually just one of two curse words to air on SNL this week.
During a Weekend Update sketch, host Colin Jost addressed Donald Trump’s “shithole” comment. After using “S-hole” to describe the incident and explaining that NBC had asked him to use “S-hole,” Jost then marveled at the fact that such a request was made “even though the president can say ‘shithole.'”
It’s been reported that NBC’s censored “shithole” as well during the West Coast broadcast, though you can hear the word itself in SNL‘s YouTube share of the sketch.
